RUNNING

From 5Ks to the Boston Marathon

Running is something that I have picked up in recent years. I have mostly been running shorter distances such as 5K and 10K and regularly compete in races in the Chicago area.
As something new for the 2018 season, I signed up to compete in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in October, which was my first marathon. Training for the marathon distance is different from training for the shorter distance and it required some adjustment and a significantly bigger commitment of time.
I continued training and in 2019 I was able to finish in a time of 3:08:33, which was good enough to earn me a Boston Qualifying Time for the 2020 Boston Marathon, which was cancelled, and eventually an entry for the 2021 Boston Marathon in October 2021, with its smaller field and much stricter entry requirements.
Running in the Boston Marathon was an amazing experience and I was able to do it again in April 2023. I continued to run the Berlin Marathon in the fall of 2023 and then the London Marathon in the spring of 2024.

In the fall of 2024, I am planning to run both the Chicago Marathon in October and the New York Marathon in November.

ALPINE MOUNTAINEERING

I have an interest in alpine mountaineering and I have successfully summited the tallest peak on two continents – Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mt. Elbrus in Europe. I have most recently attempted to summit Denali, which is the tallest peak in North America, but our expedition team had to abandon the summit push due to poor weather conditions.
Alpine mountaineering is the pursuit of reaching the summit of some of the highest mountains in the world. This often requires travelling across glaciers and on rock faces and navigating and mitigating the risks and dangers that these poses. These types of expeditions require specialized gear such as crampons and ice axes as well as extensive training in avalanche and crevasse rescue.
